Fourth of July 2026 in Lewistown, Montana: A Weekend Guide

I've spent the Fourth of July in a lot of different places over the years, and not all of them went smoothly. My childhood backyard sat right on Main Street where the parade came through every summer, and the whole family would gather to watch. One year, our town's minor league mascot, Ruffy the Rascal, a genuinely unsettling dog in a studded collar, came ambling toward the camera crew broadcasting the parade for the local news. Why I Left Bozeman for Lewistown, Montana (And Why I'd Do It Again)

My first reaction when the idea of moving came up was something close to: not again. I've spent most of my adult life in motion with ten moves in the last decade and early twenties that were more nomadic than settled. Montana was the place that finally stuck and I've been here eight years. And for the first time in as long as I could remember, I had lived in the same home for more than three years. I was nesting. I had a routine. I knew where everything was. But if I'm honest, underneath all of that comfort, something was still unsettled. We always knew Bozeman wasn't forever. I just hadn't said when yet.

And then life handed us a reason to say it.
